MahaF, Chapter 1: William
A sneak peek at the first chapter of my transgressive, Dantesque dark fiction novel, MahaF. Step onto the ferry and cross the still waters where the dead reconcile with Truth. Souls beget consequence.
CONTENT WARNING: This chapter contains mature and sensitive themes, including discussions of familial sexual abuse, boundary violations, and psychological manipulation. It also features depictions of death, brief physical peril, and themes of eternal isolation and psychological punishment.
“Who are you?” he began.
“Where am I?” he continued once he received no answer.
They always have questions. They always demand answers. He stands before that which is all he desires. Respect, fear, awe.
I gesture to my boat as I always do.
“Don’t you ignore me. I’m talking to you.” he blabbered childishly.
He recognizes not that I have waited Luna’s entire cycles before. He does not recognize that I only ever wait, have waited, and will continue to wait. I am both unburdened and unbound by time. If he waits, so shall I wait. His refusal to enter the boat does not alter the course or the urgency of the others I ferry.
And so we wait.
